Phillips elects free agency

Check out my other blog if you want more my indepth thoughts on it, but so everyone knows, Andy Phillips is out as a Yankee. He cleared waivers and was offered a chance to join up in Scranton again. He declined and rightfully so. You can read more at Pinstriped Scranton if you like.

Yankees are making a big mistake letting him go. Relying on Dougie and Giambi for 2008 will hurt them in the long run. Phillips was showing signs of turning it on beofre he broke his wrist. He's still young he will recover nicely and someone will use him to their benefit. Poor job by the Yankees I was surprised to hear it too.

I think it came down to the team liking Shelley Duncan's bat a bit more than Andy Phillips' bat. I don't believe Mientkiewicz is included in the Yankees plans for 2008. I've been wrong before though.

Yankees offered him to come back, but like I said over at the other blog, one time on waivers too many for him.

He wants a chance to play and deserves it. Another first baseman from our system going to another team here, and it sucks.

And I agree with you Mike, I don't see Mienkiewicz being part of their plans. They haven't made it seem that way at least.

GRAH! Shelley Duncan! Another likeable Yankee! Trade her! Trade her!

Be careful what you say to Shelley Duncan, Travis. He will break your forearm the next time you hit a home run.

I think the Yankees take the Shelly Duncan Wilson Betemit approach. With Giambi living out the rest of his contract at DH.
